Prepping for Palau

This past semester sure has been a whirlwind of tests, projects, outreach and grant deadlines but it is finally over and the Kemp Lab is preparing to head to Palau (see map below) for 6 weeks of field work!

For those of you that don't know, I am a first year PhD student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham studying the impacts of climate change on coral in both Palau and in the Florida Keys in Dr. Dustin Kemp's lab. I have worked only with Floridian corals and am stoked to work with Pacific corals in the beautiful island nation of Palau. I mean I get to work where people vacation, so I count myself as incredibly lucky!

I have been working on packing up the equipment the Kemp lab will need for our trip, as well as my personal dive gear (I finally have my own thanks to the generosity of the International Women's Fishing Association Trust!!) and other necessities.

As you can see, we have a considerable amount of gear that will be accompanying us on the 24+ hours of travel.

Shout out to the incredibly thoughtful Kenny Greg for getting me a GoPro Hero 5! I am hoping to get some beautiful footage that you will be able to use in a music video. Pardon my shameless plug, but you guys should check out Kenny Greg's music on Spotify and all other music platforms!

Now I have some more last minute packing to do!

You guys will hear from me next when I am in Palau :D
